William Blount

· William Blount was born April 6, 1749, at "Rosefield", Bertie County, North Carolina.
· William Blount got married to Mary Grainger February 12, 1778.
· William Blount had six kids: Anne, Mary Louisa, William Grainger, Richard Blackledge, Barbara, and Eliza Blount.
· William Blount died on March 21, 1800, at Knoxville, Tennessee.




William Blount represents North Carolina.
William Blount's role in the Constitutional Convention of 1787:

  • He organized the state.
  • He played a major role founding the state of Tennessee.
  • Served as the president of the Tennessee Constitutional Convention 1796.
  • Tennessee entered the Union as the 16th state in 1796.
  • He served his native state in elective office and under arms during the Revolution.



Along with being a delegate from North Carolina he also held the following:
  • North Carolina of Commons, 1780-1784.
  • Delegate from North Carolina to U.S. Continental Congress, 1782-1783.
  • Member Senate of North Carolina General Assembly, 1788-1790.
  • Member North Carolina Convention of 1789 called to ratify the Constitution.
